Faculty Associate Adjunct – Psychology
Hiring Department
The University of Texas Permian Basin seeks an adjunct Instructor of Psychology beginning August 2023. The successful candidate should hold a M.A. or Ph.D. in psychology and have experience or interest in teaching online or in-person. The area of expertise is open. Adjuncts may teach up to two courses per term.
Salary Range
$2,500.00 per course depending on qualifications
Essential Functions
The ideal candidate for the position should hold a M.A., Psy.D., or Ph.D. in psychology. A willingness to teach online is desired. The Psychology Department at UT Permian Basin prides itself on excellence in inclusive and student-centered teaching.
1. Teach courses based on departmental needs and expertise
2. Participate in curricular development
3. Provide support to students in need of academic improvement
Required Qualifications
1. 18 credit hours post Bachelor's degree in psychology
Preferred Qualifications
1. Hold a M.A., Psy.D., or Ph.D. in psychology
2. Some experience teaching adult learners

Conditions of Employment
1. The job description is not a complete list of all responsibilities and duties performed by employees. Employees may perform other related duties as assigned by their immediate supervisor.
2. Employment is subject to an introductory period to monitor employee performance.
3. Once hired, the prospective employee must present documentation within three (3) days of the hire date to establish their identity and employment eligibility as required by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). 4. Employees must be able and willing to travel and perform duties away from campus as necessary and must be able to operate a licensed motor vehicle, have access to a dependable motor vehicle, and possess a valid state driver's license. Must have and maintain a satisfactory driver's record.
5. Employment is contingent upon a successful background check.

Schedule
Generally, the normal work hours for the university are Monday through Thursday, 7:30 – 5:30 pm; Friday, 8:00 am – 12:00 pm with a one-hour lunch. The hours for this position are variable and depend on one's teaching schedule. The individual holding this position may need to be available early morning, evening, and on weekends to meet the needs of the department. Hours worked may differ with some departments.
Standard Working Conditions
1. Able to lift various materials up to 25 pounds on an occasional basis.
2. Able to bend, crouch, and reach continuously.
3. Physically able remain seated, frequently to continuously.
4. Able to remain standing up to 15% of the time.
5. Possesses dexterity abilities required to perform job duties including extensive keyboard work, operating office equipment, performing filing, and other job-related responsibilities that include extensive wrist and hand movement.
6. Standard working conditions may differ depending on department and occupation.

About the Basin
A “basin” is a simple geological term for a dip or depression in the earth’s surface—usually caused by erosion aboveground and earthquakes deep underneath.
Stretching from eastern New Mexico and covering most of West Texas (Lubbock to the north, the Rio Grande Valley to the south), the Permian Basin is actually a collection of smaller basins. But in all, the Permian Basin covers 75,000 square miles—making it one of the larger basins in North America.
But that’s geology. From the layperson’s perspective, the Permian Basin is actually a stunning stretch of American land with a unique beauty all its own. You feel like you can actually see the earth meet the sky in the distance.
The Permian Basin has something for everyone.
Odessa & Midland: Urban Country

Sitting Atop the Future of Energy
At the beginning of the 21st century, the Permian Basin—which had once been the source of vast oil supplies—seemed to be fading in importance.
But new technologies revealed just the opposite: There was more petroleum trapped in the ground beneath the Permian Basin than anyone could’ve guessed. Thanks to advancements in energy exploration, the Permian Basin was quickly named the largest oil reserve on the planet. Our backyard is expected to fuel the American and global economies for at least the next two decades.
With this discovery, our neck of the woods has seen an explosion in economic activity.
