The Department of Psychiatry at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania seeks candidates for an Associate Professor position in the non-tenure clinician educator track. Expertise is required in the specific area of brain stimulation techniques ranging from transcranial magnetic stimulation to deep brain stimulation. The successful applicant will have substantial experience in the field of neuroimaging and interest in contributing to projects that incorporate neuromodulatory strategies, in particular Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS). Other techniques such as ECT, VNS, biofeedback with a focus on task-based and resting state fMRI are also of interest, particularly in conjunction with TMS. This individual is expected to have expertise in the evaluation, diagnosis and treatment of mental health disorders, not limited to mood and anxiety disorders as well as obsessive compulsive disorder. Experience in designing translational studies and clinical trials is expected as part of developing clinical research, as well as building a research program that will leverage the clinical practice and the broader neuroscience and engineering community at Penn. Applicants must have an M.D. degree.

Teaching responsibilities may include teaching and mentoring residents, students and other trainees.

Clinical responsibilities may include inpatient treatment with TMS and ECT. Experience with a high-volume, high acuity clinical service is preferred with a track record of building a brain stimulation practice. In addition, there will be work on clinical trials, outpatient clinics and inpatient coverage.

Research or scholarship responsibilities may include collaborative and independent research on fundamental properties of neural networks, neuroplasticity, and the application of computational techniques to interrogate brain circuitry in psychiatric disorders. Development of a research program that includes synergistic interaction with other basic and clinical researchers is expected. Federal funding will not be required but a clear plan for a path to independence will be expected through a combination of grants and clinical income.

Prior experience with interfacing to data acquisition hardware and/or creating real-time systems is desirable. Interested candidates should provide a brief cover letter, CV, 2-3 page research statement, and names of 2-3 references.
