Minimum Qualifications
  • PhD or PsyD from an APA-accredited doctoral program with a specialization in Clinical Psychology, including combined programs (e.g., Clinical/School Psychology, Clinical/Community Psychology). ABD will be considered for this position. Evidence of successful defense of the dissertation must be received by July 31 for a fall hire or November 30 for a spring hire.
  • Licensed or license-eligible as a Psychologist, Health Service Provider in North Carolina through the NC State Board of Examiners of Psychologists by the start of appointment.
  • Evidence of success or potential for developing significant research, quality publications, and external funding.
  • Demonstrated history or promise of teaching excellence.
Areas of Interest (No Minimum Level Required)
● Completion of an APA-accredited internship.
● Clinical and/or research experience relevant to child/adolescent psychology and/or rural
communities (e.g., integrated care, telehealth).
● Clinical supervision experience.

Description of the Department or Unit
The Department of Psychology has 37 full-time faculty members (30 tenure-track) and serves more than 1,400 undergraduate majors and 90 graduate students across four graduate programs: Experimental Psychology MA, Industrial-Organizational Psychology and Human Resource Management MA, School Psychology MA/SSP, and Clinical Psychology PsyD. Faculty are afforded the opportunity to teach summer courses for supplementary income and engage in external activities for up to one day per week, which many clinical faculty use for consultation or private practice endeavors. The department is dedicated to the mission and strategic plan of the university and to creating a nurturing community that welcomes, respects, and supports all constituents.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Develop and teach courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels. The typical teaching load is three courses per semester.
  • Maintain a productive program of research, including publishing in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Supervise graduate and undergraduate student research.
  • Seek external funding (e.g., research, workforce development, outreach, program development).
  • Provide professional service to the program, department, university, community, and discipline.
  • Work to extend research, service, training, or other professional efforts to support all individuals from a variety of populations.

ABD Description
No ABD consideration: Only candidates with an earned doctorate or terminal degree from an accredited institution will be considered for the position. Since ABD will not meet the minimum requirements, ABD will not be considered.

ABD with reduction in rank and salary: ABD will be considered for this position. Evidence of successful defense of the dissertation must be received by July 31 for a fall hire or November 30 for a spring hire. If confirmation of defense is not provided by the deadline, the candidate will receive a new one-year fixed-term contract and be hired at the rank of Instructor. The candidate’s salary will also be reduced to a lower rate commensurate with other full-time instructors in the same department. However, if degree verification is provided before the end of the one-year fixed-term contract, the candidate will be returned to the rank of assistant professor with commensurate compensation beginning July 1 of the following academic year.
