SUMMARY

 

The primary functions of this position are to provide clinical and outreach services to GRCC's diverse student population, and consultation services to the campus community.

 

We are seeking an experienced counselor with strong demonstrated interest and experience in one or more of the following desired clinical and outreach areas: triage and crisis management, consultation and case management; suicide prevention; veteran student concerns; LGBTQ student concerns, International student concerns; career counseling; issues related to race/ethnicity; and disability needs.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

 

 

  • Providing assessment, evaluation and short-term counseling services for individual students.

     

  • Help students identify, evaluate, manage, resolve, and/or cope with emotional, social, academic, and career issues.

     

  • Providing group counseling services through groups that address a specific clinical issue or the needs of a particular population of students.

     

  • Develop and implement career exploration workshops, classroom presentations and resources with a focus on the undecided student population.

     

  • Maintain a clinical caseload

     

  • Maintain ethical and timely service and student records

     

  • Providing outreach and clinical services that address the needs of the general student population as well as the needs of traditionally underserved populations.

     

  • Evaluating and managing psychological emergency, crisis and trauma response needs across campus.

     

  • Provide consultative service to faculty regarding concerns about students

     

  • Collaborate with other CCD faculty to monitor the student counseling and career development services to ensure a successful student experience.

     

  • Provide support to maintain and/or improve the CCD services.

     

  • Plan, prepare, and recommend faculty schedules.

     

  • Other duties as normally required of GRCC faculty members.

     

JOB SPECIFICATIONS

 

Education Credentials

 

 

  • Master's degree in Counseling, Counselor Education, Social Work, or Psychology from a regionally accredited college/university required.

     

  • PhD in Counseling, Counselor Education, Social Work, or Psychology preferred.

     

  • Licensed Professional Counselor, Licensed Psychologist, Limited Licensed Psychologist, or Master's Social Work License with clinical designation required.

     

  • Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred.

     

Work Experience

 

 

  • Minimum of 3 years counseling experience required.

     

  • Experience in higher education is highly preferred.

     

Skills

 

 

  • Use of electronic health record software for the timely completion of clinical records.

     

  • Use of a secure video conferencing platform to conduct tele-mental health appointments.

     

  • Strong clinical, diagnostic, interpersonal, communication, and collaborative skills.

     

  • Demonstrated experience in the assessment and management of suicidality and crisis intervention.

     

  • Experience with brief, short term models.

     

  • Background in college counseling or in treating late adolescents and emerging adults.

     

  • Understanding of confidentiality as related to HIPPA and FERPA guidelines.

  • Must be proficient in verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.

     

  • Project a professional image including punctuality and good attendance record.

     

  • Ability to ambulate around campus and sit for long periods.

  • Proven ability to provide excellent customer service to students and staff in a demanding work environment.

     

  • Ability to perform routine and unexpected duties with minimum supervision.

     

  • Pronounced interest in helping and supporting students, staff, and the general public.

     

  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to prioritize and complete tasks in a timely manner.

     

  • Must use good judgment in handling sensitive or difficult situations in a compassionate and professional manner.

     

Working Conditions

  • Travel to off campus sites may be needed.

     

  • Ability to work in a high traffic, indoor office environment.
