Assistant/Associate Professor of Marriage and Family Therapy

Department: Counseling, Family Therapy, and Higher Education – 260100
Minimum Qualifications
- Doctorate in Marriage and Family Therapy or a related clinical field completed by July 31, 2025
- Evidence of (or commitment to) ongoing scholarly activity, to include publications and presentations
- Evidence of (or commitment to) implementing best practices related to course design and classroom environment as well as ongoing development as an instructor
- Evidence of (or commitment to) active engagement in the MFT profession
- AAMFT Approved Supervisor or Supervisor Candidate
- Licensed or license-eligible as a marriage and family therapist in North Carolina
Areas of Interest (No Minimum Level Required)
- Previous academic and/or professional leadership experience
- Experience implementing the COAMFTE accreditation standards and assessing student and program outcomes
- Interest in pursuing external funding relevant to MFT
- Experience in clinical practice and supervision in Couple and Family Therapy, including work with clients from communities facing disproportionate barriers
- Experience mentoring students and/or faculty who are systemically disadvantaged
- Graduated (or will graduate) from a COAMFTE accredited program
License/Certification Required
Description of the Department or Unit
The Department of Counseling, Family Therapy, and Higher Education (CTH) has 5 graduate degree programs: a) Marriage and Family Therapy (COAMFTE accredited), b) Clinical Mental Health Counseling (CACREP accredited), c) Professional School Counseling (CACREP accredited), d) Student Affairs Administration (CAS standards aligned ), and e) Higher Education, along with 3 graduate certificate programs; a) Addiction Counseling, b) College and University Teaching, and c) Expressive Arts Therapy. The CTH department includes 20 full-time faculty and 2 full time staff members along with approximately 160 graduate students.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Assume a leadership role in the department (e.g., program director, internship coordinator) relevant to prior experience
- Teach a 3:3 course load on campus with reassigned time available for serving in a leadership role; Summer teaching is available
- Teach MFT courses and provide clinical supervision of internship students
- Advise and mentor graduate students in the MFT program
- Engage in research and scholarly activities relevant to MFT
- Engage in service to the program, department, institution, and MFT profession
